Knowing Jesus - 13 September 2007
Link to life
How do we get to know about world leaders and
the impact they may have on us? Is there anyone we know who is “all
good”?
Verse (Romans 3:23-24)
“for all have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the
redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”
There is an understanding about humanity that
we are basically good. There is also the reality that the world has
a great amount of suffering, evil and oppression. There is a
personal reality too. None of us are perfect. So what does Jesus
have to do with life?
BBC says in its Statement of beliefs “that
Jesus Christ, though the divine Son of God, came to earth as a
human, lived a sinless life, was killed by crucifixion, was buried,
rose again physically and returned to heaven.”
Discussion
Part 1 – Humanity and sin
How well has humanity dealt with choice over
history?
How does our own free will affect our lives?
What is God’s view about the outcome of sin? (Romans 5:12)
Part 2 – Jesus (John 1:1)
Jesus is God. What difference would it make if
he was not? What about sin?
Jesus was human. Jesus knows what it’s like to walk in our shoes.
Could we get to know him well if he wasn’t human? How can we get to
know him?
Part 3 – Forgiveness (1 Corinthians 15:22)
Jesus did more than just live have an impact on
those who he met, and then die. He was the answer to sin in the
world, he brought life to the world. His death paid the price for
each person’s sin.
How do we work with Jesus on the sin problem?
Confess (admit guilt), repent (turn away from it), accept
forgiveness through Jesus. And do it as often as we sin.
The Big Question
To get real in one area of my life, what do I
need to do? How can I involve Jesus?
