Women’s activities
The vision of the women’s ministry team is to
see women’s lives centred in Christ, so that they are set free to be
a Godly influence, where ever God has placed them. We believe that
this is possible through the work of the Holy Spirit, the truth of
God’s Word and being in connection with one another.
Women’s ministry at BBC is not just about
events and activities but it is about providing connection points
along our life and faith journey. Our desire is that these
connection points will be a catalyst for authentic relationships
with one another that will bring encouragement and accountability as
we face the realities of life while gaining strength from Jesus
Christ.
The theme for 2008 is Quiet Places. This
comes from John 14:27 where Jesus says “I am leaving you with a
gift – a peaceful mind and heart”. In life today it is very
difficult to experience this gift of peace and allow our lives to
express the place of peace that Jesus has won for us through His
death and resurrection. Women long to experience daily that promised
peace with God, peace with ourselves and peace with one another.
Women’s ministry initiatives include:
Newsletters
A regular newsletter is
produced to bring encouragement, testimonies and information about
women’s initiatives.
Download the May
newsletter.
Mum’s
night out
Once a term, mum’s with
younger children get together for dessert and coffee to listen to a
guest speaker.
Town
centre lunches
Once a month women from
the Belconnen area meet at Myers in Belconnen Mall for a catch up
and fellowship.
‘Bloom where you are planted’ Prayer breakfasts
Every six weeks or so,
we meet for a light breakfast and time to pray for the women of BBC
and the community. Each breakfast has a different theme offering
women involved in different areas of work or facing particular
issues to come and share and receive prayer. Themes include aged
care, parents of teenagers, teachers and schools, Christians
experiencing persecution and supporting our missionaries.
Guess
Who’s Coming to Dinner
This year we have
started ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner’ evenings targeted to younger
women, particularly those who may have moved to Canberra to study or
work. The vision is to provide an opportunity for women to connect
with one another and meet new faces in a more intimate setting.
‘Her
Time’ Retreat
From Friday 20 June to
Sunday 22 June BBC Women will be holding a retreat at Greenhills
Conference Centre. The theme is ‘Quiet Places’ and our guest
speaker will teach about experiencing places of stillness with
God. It is in these places that we get to know Him and ourselves
more deeply.
