Time To Build

In 2005 Belconnen Baptist went through a capital fund raising program called “Influencing The Capital” with the aim of raising funds to extend our facilities and to understand the purposes why. We praise God for the amount pledged!

At last, work on Stage One is commencing. The demolition and removal of the Resource Centre garage and carport has been completed.  A builder has been selected.  Mifsud Constructions signed the contract on 13 July.

Stage One includes extensions and renovations to the staff offices at the Church Centre and extensions to the Resource Centre.
Work will commence on 7 August and completion of the project is expected by 17 November.

Extensions to Offices

The extensions to the Offices in the Church Centre will be the first task with the external work being completed before the existing external wall is opened and internal work commenced, including the replacement of the ceiling panels.

Admin staff will continue to use the offices for the entire time of the project. From approximately 8 September for around one month Pastoral Staff will operate from their homes, though they will continue to come to the church centre for various duties.  The work on the offices is expected to be completed by 9 October.

At the Resource Centre, the work will initially be external and some activities in the building may continue until the existing walls are opened to allow completion of the internal work. It is expected that the external work will be completed around 8 September.

To help minimize costs there will be coordinated working bees. Your help in any way would be appreciated.

Use of the Resource Centre

The Church can have continuing use of the front of the building (Lounge, Kitchen, Family Room, Office) throughout the project. The toilets will remain available in the early weeks but after that users will need to go to the church to use toilets.  The "back bedrooms" must be made available to the builder by the 8th of September, when they expect to break through and commence internal work.

Mifsud Constructions will use the former Young Life office (MPR#3) for administration and storage purposes throughout the project. They will also use the Laundry for storage purposes. We wish to thank Ric Small and David Witteveen for all their work.

There are two ways to give using a Credit Card account.

  • Fill in an authority slip for a recurring transaction (available from the church office). This allows the church to make fortnightly debits from your credit card account according to the amount you specify.

  • Make a one off transaction. The church's Influencing the Capital Building Fund envelopes (available in the foyer) have a credit card option printed on the envelope.

Influencing the Capital - the vision and challenge

Since the commencement of this church 33 years ago, Belconnen Baptist has influenced many lives in Canberra and through many parts of Australia and the world. We are now entering a new chapter that will further influence the Capital.

Influencing the Capital will be an exciting, challenging and faith-stretching experience for us at Belconnen Baptist. To make any lasting impact requires commitment and sacrifice. This brochure specifically challenges us to prayerfully consider ways that we may give financially to the building of His Church!

At Belconnen Baptist we have a vision to be a church of Godly influence… where the Holy Spirit changes the destiny of many. Jesus said, “Build my church” (Matthew 16:18)
